In the Kid Power Family App, activity data for each kid is always kept private and only accessible to the kid. High level participation data (mission status, total earned badges and points) is also accessible to a kid’s followers.
In the classroom version of Kid Power, activity data for each kid is always kept private and only accessible to the coach (teacher). Activity data for a team (classroom) is viewable to the public as a group aggregate, allowing teams to track their progress compared to other teams.
Children’s activity data is only tied to a screen name, grade, gender, and device ID.
Who we are
- U.S. Fund for UNICEF – a 501(c)3 nonprofit incorporated in the United States; and
- Calorie Cloud – 501(c)3 nonprofit organization incorporated in the United States.
UNICEF Kid Power is a collaboration between the U.S. Fund for UNICEF and Calorie Cloud. The U.S. Fund for UNICEF is the United States non-profit, non-governmental organization that supports the United Nations Children’s Fund. Calorie Cloud, also a United States non-profit organization, operates programs that convert the abundance of calories burned in the U.S. into life saving food for undernourished kids. Calorie Cloud was founded by MANA Nutrition, a non-profit organization that manufactures RUTF (Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food), with the goal of expanding global budgets to help more children suffering from severe acute malnutrition.
The term “Website” means the website located at unicefkidpower.org. The term “Mobile Application” means our Kid Power smartphone mobile application. In combination, we refer to our Website, and Mobile Application as our “Services.” A variety of people may be engaged in the Kid Power experience at one time: for instance, a group Champion, team Coaches, Parents, and Kids.
The purpose of this policy is to tell you what kind of information we may gather about Users when they visit this Website or use our Services, how we may use that information, whether we disclose it to anyone, and the choices Users have regarding our use of, and their ability to correct this information. Our policy allows you to choose what kind of User you are and how much information you provide to us, and to control how we use whatever information you give us.
Information is collected from Users primarily to make it easier and more rewarding to use our Mobile Application and Website. Depending on the service accessed, Users could provide anonymous information (if a Participant or Visitor) or Personal information (if an Account holder). We collect the minimum amount of information needed to provide a quality experience, and we will only collect personal information when Users provide it to us. We only collect the screen name, grade, gender, and device ID of Participants and do not supplement the data we collect with information from third parties.
In addition, for the Kid Power Family program, we ask for the participant’s birthdate. We ask this in order to comply with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which requires participants under the age of 13 to use the service with verifiable parental consent. In accordance with industry standards, we conduct parental verification by processing a credit card.
When Users use our Services, we may automatically collect information on the technology they are using (e.g., type of device, operating system, screen size).
We do not ask Users for, access, or track any location-based information from your mobile device at any time while downloading or using our Services on your device. We reserve the right to use location-based software to protect the security of Hardware owned by us – for instance, to track stolen devices. Information used for security purposes will not be mixed with the Services data.
We may specifically ask for personal information about Account Holders when they sign up to use a service through this Website. Information we require includes gender, email address, and date of birth or school name in order to provide that service or product to the Account Holder. This information may also be used to assist Account Holders during their engagement with the Mobile Application; inform Account Holders of future related services which may interest them; and request feedback about the Mobile Application or Website. Account Holders can choose to opt-out of such communications (see the “opt-out preferences” disclosure below). Account Holders are able to register Participants by using their information to assign a band. Account Holders can also delete affiliated Participants from Kid Power by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Certain Account Holders have the ability to invite 3rd party individuals into our system for invitational and registration purposes. The types of information we collect are name and email address. We will use this information to contact them for that express purpose only. These individuals may email us at email@example.com to request that we remove this information from our database.
We do not collect personally identifiable information about Participants.
We may specifically ask for information about Participants when they sign up to use a service through the Mobile Application, such as a first name or screenname, gender, and class or team name, in order to provide that service or product to the Participant. In addition, we collect physical activity data from Participants when they synchronize their Device to our Mobile Application.
How we use your information
We will only use the personal information you have chosen to provide us for the purpose for which you provided it. We will not use it for any other purpose without your consent. We may use your personal information to:
- fulfill your registration,
- send you confirmation messages,
- send you requested service information,
- respond to customer service requests,
- administer your account,
- allow you to track your progress (or your team’s progress) over time,
- allow you to participate in virtual challenges,
- send you a newsletter,
- send you marketing communications,
- administer contests you entered, and notify you if you won,
- improve our Website and marketing efforts, and
- display content based upon your interests.
We may also use Participant information for reporting purposes. For instance, we may provide anonymous, aggregate information about Participants’ participation in Kid Power, aggregate performance information, and summary information about Teams to participating Group leaders and research partners. Individual Participants’ data will not be publicly available, and instead will only be available to the Coach of the Participant.
As is true of most websites, we may gather certain information automatically and store it in log files. This information includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp, and clickstream data. We may use this information, which does not identify individual users, to analyze trends, to administer the site, to track users’ movements around the site, to gather demographic information about our user base as a whole and report aggregated data to our advertisers. We do not link this automatically-collected data to personally identifiable information.
Disclosure of your information
We may also disclose your personal information as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena, bankruptcy proceedings, or similar legal process when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request. If UNICEF is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of its assets, you will be notified via email and/or a prominent notice on our website, of any change in ownership, uses of your personal information, and choices you may have regarding your personal information.
Access to your personal information
If your personal information changes, you may correct, update, amend, ask to have it removed from our Services or deactivate it by making the change on your member settings page, by emailing our Customer Support at firstname.lastname@example.org or by contacting us by telephone or postal mail at the contact information listed below. If you no longer desire our service, please contact customer service. We will respond to your request to within 30 days. We will retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. We will retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
Opt out preferences
If you wish to subscribe to our newsletter and other communications, we will use your name and email address to send those communications to you. Out of respect for your privacy, you may choose to stop receiving our newsletter or marketing emails by emailing us at email@example.com.
Protection of personal information
The security of your personal information is important to us. Where utilized for the purpose of transactions, the Services use a login process to promote the security of usernames and passwords. The Website’s servers are located in a secure hosted data center with security measures in place.
We follow generally accepted standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure, however. Therefore, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
